The occasional ramblings of one man (and his clogs)

Week Seventeen and some more general ramblings…

Another quiet week. Work was terrible, but I’m not allowed to talk about that…
Some strange things happened in the world of WordPress last week. Within about an hour of my last post it had been liked by nine bloggers. This was very high traffic as I don’t really plug this blog that much. A quick look at the people who liked it did see a bit of a theme as they all seemed to be photographers or into photography. When I got up on Monday another person had liked the post and actually started to follow me. Result! Or is it? Looking at my stats page, only three people visited my blog on Sunday which does beg the question – how can 9 people like your post when only 3 people visited the whole blog? Are the stats on WordPress really that rubbish or do they use a bizarre time zone meaning likes on a Sunday show up as visitors on a Monday? I’m not really moaning about this, but I am a little curious as to what it all means. I’d be disappointed if there was some sort of app that searches for key words in blogs (e.g. Photography) and clicks the like button. Looking at the other bloggers blogs I did see a lot of familiar faces in the like sections…
I was going to write a bit about how people get the time to write their blogs, go out everyday taking photos, hold down a job to fund such an expensive habit and still find time to eat and sleep. Alas I’ve done far too much of the latter today and am fast running out of Sunday.
Saturday night was another Mer Dance in Second Life. This time I was DJ-ing at the grand opening of a new Mer Sim called Stella Mare. It was earlier than the recent gigs I’ve done and we had a decent turnout. More importantly (for me) the people there seemed to like the music I was playing and were quite vocal about it, which helps me when choosing tracks. Unlike some DJs in Second Life I don’t just load up 2 hours worth of music then press play. I like to play to the crowd, see what they like, they don’t like etc and choose tracks as I go along. To me it makes for a better set. I’m sure other would disagree though… Anyhoo, the owners of the sim got asked if there would be anymore events like this and I was asked if I’d do some more.
We had some nice skies again this week, but they were harder to photograph in an interesting manner. Here’s a few shots I took this week as part of my “A Photo A Day Challenge”. They were all done with my phone using a cross processing type effect.

  1. Another good blog, I look foward to a Sunday evenings just so I can read your blog. I agree about the stats thing on here its all very strange. Oh loving this weeks photography’s.

    • I did a bit of research after I posted this post. I went to Freshly Pressed and filtered on Photography. This post came up and it had a “like” button. I’m guessing now that people reading that way don’t show up as a visitor in your stats.

I’m going to revist the Church and Tree with a better camera as the colours really didn’t come through. The tree is covered in Ivy and in the right light looks fantastic. One for the “to do list”…
